The
Wellground Farmhouse will be a Log Cabin, manufactured in Nova Scotia,
Canada to our own design created from solid eastern white pine logs.
Having removed the old timber stable block that once stood there, our
first job is to dig the footings.
The Footings and Base

An earth
retaining wall has been created in the background. |

It's very wet
here at the beginning of November. The footings are cut into the
old concrete slab and quickly fill with rain water. |
|

The base for
the Log Home is being created as a plinth on the footings. The
logs will be secured to the plinth by through bolts running from
top to bottom. The holes in the block work are to allow the bolts
to be tightened. |

But ! The
water just keeps coming down, it just never stops raining at the
moment. A mechanical water pump can bee seen in the foreground
pumping the water out of the footings whilst the blocks are laid.
I wish it was summer again ! |

Eventually
the base is almost finished, the final stage is to lay
insulation and a radon gas barrier below the concrete floor. |

The timber
arrived. It came from Canada in a huge Shipping Container. It took
8 big men over 12 hours to unload into the new barn. |
|

The logs are
huge and are very heavy, we are in the process of sorting them
into their locations. |
|

Then it is
time to stack the logs close to the base. Things are moving on
now. |
|
|
|
Endless piles
of logs. These are cut to shape in the saw mills in Nova Scotia.
There is a plan to follow. It's a bit like a puzzle. Did Rubik
invent this thing ?? |
